Thoughts of...Frightening Times
For many months now we have read of the homicide bombings in Israel. Yesterday we were personally touched by one of those bombings with the loss of a beautiful young woman named Shiri, a loved one of our dear friend and tour guide in Israel. She was murdered in cold blood by a young man filled with hate, the son of a mother who rejoiced upon the completion of her son’s mission. Both mother and son have been deceived by an ideology of death that comes from the Destroyer, that great dragon called the devil and Satan (2 Cor 4:3-4, Rev 12:9). Contrary to the rhetoric coming from Yassar Arafat in response to President Bush’s speech calling for the PLO leader’s removal, the beat of terror against Israel goes on, it even appears to be escalating.
Policemen from New York City and Los Angeles have gone to Israel to be trained in how to identify and stop homicide bombers because it is widely believed that the ideology of death that embraces such horror will soon strike in our country. Such a big country, so many cities, an almost endless list of targets – how do you defend yourself against rabid insanity bent on his/her and your death?
USA law enforcement agencies are searching for between 75 and 125 al Qaeda terrorists that have illegally penetrated our nation in the last two months via commercial sea containers. The search is focused on major ports on both east and west coasts. The stowaways come armed with weapons and explosives. The physical safety of American citizens is at risk, as is the world’s seafaring commerce, lifeblood of the global economy.
Osama bin Laden is said to be on the verge, allegedly on July 4, of another broadcast to the world via video tape. The terrorist’s spokesman has said, “Our martyrs are ready for operations against American and Jewish targets inside and outside. America should be prepared. It should be ready. They should fasten their seat belts. We are coming to them where they never expected. Yes, we are going to launch attacks against America, at the place we want, in the way we please.” That same spokesman warned of the death of up to 4 million Americans, including 1 million children, through the use of chemical and biological weapons. Idle rhetoric? Or a defiant and hateful warning?
While we are on the subject of mass destruction, the recent nuclear saber-rattling between India and Pakistan frayed the nerves of the entire world. In addition, the activities of Iraq and Iran with weapons of this type, has everybody’s attention.
